The goal at Sharp Shooter’s Kennel is to produce German shorthaired pointer puppies that will mature into truly versatile hunting companions with impeccable pedigrees. Dogs aren’t added to the breeding program until they have proven themselves as hunting dogs, have met stringent conformation and health criteria and have successfully tested in sanctioned hunting trials.
Creating puppies that are hunting partners and family companions is their number one priority. Clyde and Marilyn believe testing programs from organizations like the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association and the American Kennel Club are excellent tools to help breeders evaluate each dog’s inherent potential. Since pups end up all across the country, Clyde & Marilyn require all pups be run in and pass a NAVHDA Natural Ability test so they can get an understanding of what each breeding produces. (See NAVHDA's test rules book for more information) To date, Sharp Shooter’s Kennel has been awarded seven of NAVHDA’s Utility Breeders Awards and 19 NAVHDA Natural Ability Breeders Awards. Just as important as hunting talent, is breeding dogs with good structure. While no dog is perfect, Clyde and Marilyn strive to combine parents who will create pups that accurately reflect the breed standard. Whether you are testing or hunting with your pup, you will have great days in the field and in the marsh. Since puppies are not always available, it’s recommended you contact the kennel early, as there is usually a lengthy waiting list.

| Sharp Shooter’s Big Talking Lady (call name Gabby) is a joy both as a part of the family, and a hunting partner. Gabby is also as beautiful as any German Shorthaired Pointer around and she is a wonderful room mate in the house. Her personality revolves around her intense prey desire. She is constantly vigilant for any movement at the patio doors – waiting quietly for birds or any wildlife to move in her view. In the field, she is a dynamo of duration. In her first season she took on the deep snow of northern South Dakota in the first week of January. We were one of only a few braces of dogs out in the sub zero weather and strong winds and butt deep snow. I thought that I would finally outlast her, but after 4 hours in the cat tails she was still looking like a field mouse cruising through the snow and cover and finding birds buried in tight. The long and short of Gabby is her lovely disposition, her prey drive and her unbelievable duration. She doesn’t quit. |
